My 10 Favourite Mean Girls The Musical Songs

Hello and welcome back to my blog! Now, if you’re a regular reader of my blog you’ll know that I have done a fair few musical theatre posts because it’s something I absolutely adore and I’ve decided to do more musical theatre posts and making them more of a regular feature but don’t worry, I’ll still be doing the same sort of posts I’m already doing like my bullet journal posts and my Blogger Love series. I haven’t fully figured out how I’ll do it all yet, I might just post theatre posts on Thursdays and keep Tuesdays for regular posts but I may just keep posting on only Tuesdays and just mix up my content. Anyway, I’ve rambled on enough now so let’s get into today’s post. It’s my 10 favourite Mean Girls The Musical Songs. I’m absolutely loving Mean Girls The Musical at the moment so I couldn’t think of a better show to kick off this mini-series of my favourite songs from musicals. The entire MGTM soundtrack is available on youtube so I’ll link all o the songs for you to listen to easily but check out the full album because it’s great!

My 10 Favourite Mean Girls The Musical Songs

1. World Burn

Okay. Taylor Louderman is a POWERHOUSE. I don’t really know what else to say about this one, it’s so good and I love (attempting) to sing along!

2. Meet The Plastics

As you may have guessed from the title of this song, it’s our introduction to Regina, Karen and Gretchen aka The Plastics. I love this song because each of the plastics has their own little bit in the song and they’re so different and represent each character’s personalities so well it’s just genius!

3. Sexy

Sexy is the most quotable song you will ever hear, I guarantee. Every single line is brilliant and so clever which is ironic as it’s sung by Karen who isn’t very clever. She’s my favourite character in the musical and this song is one of the reasons why.

4. Someone Gets Hurt

Like World Burn, this is another Regina powerhouse moment in the show. I don’t know how Taylor Louderman sings this live every day because in this song she honestly bearly touches the ground! Here’s her performing it at Stars In The Alley but it’s even more impressive in the show because she’s not just being lifted like in this video below but she’s also up and down on tables throughout the song.

5. I See Stars

I don’t really understand how this song fits into the show because it doesn’t make sense to me but saying that, it’s such a lovely song and it’s a really uplifting end to the show after everything gets messed up and everyone is fighting. The entire cast comes together at the end and it’s a beautiful ending!

6. Apex Predator

This song is sung by Cady and Janis and it’s all about Janis explaining to Cady what Regina is really like and Cady talks about what it’s like about being in with Regina. I first heard this song when it was performed on the Today Show and I loved it! It’s probably better for you to just watch this video, there’s an intro from Tina Fey who explains the song far better than I could!

7. I’d Rather Be Me

I love this one mostly because it’s a Janis song and Barret Wilbert Weed is phenomenal! I love the message of the song and it’s just a tune!

8. Stop

This is another genius song, it’s mostly sung by Damien which means it’s a really showtuney song, Karen again has some brilliant lines, it’s super funny AND there’s a tap number. What more can you want?!

9. Revenge Party

If you’re familiar with the film of Mean Girls, this is the part where Janis, Damien and Cady plot to bring down the plastics. It’s a funny song because they’re not only plotting but they also go through what happens when each stage of their plan happens like Regina getting fat and having Gretchen think Cady is Regina’s best friend when she gets a candy cane and Gretchen doesn’t. My favourite part is “Four for Glen Coco, you go Glen Coco GLEN COCO GLEN COCO GLEN COCO”.

10. A Cautionary Tale

This is the song that opens the musical, it’s sung by Janis and Damien and sets up the story. It’s a really funny song and I think it’s the perfect way to start the show!
