Blogger Love: Elaine (Early Modern World)

In today’s edition of Blogger Love, I will be featuring Elaine from Early Modern World. I ask everyone who wants to be featured in Blogger Love to answer a few questions so that we can get to know them and their blog so I’m excited for you all to get to know Elaine a little better!

Tell us a bit about you and your blog.

My blog is dedicated to everything early modern, the period of history from around 1500-1800 (that sweet spot between the medieval period and the Victorians). I’m married with a baby (and a furbaby!). I work full time as an administrator in a university, which gives me access to lots of historical sources I wouldn’t be able to get otherwise.

Why did you start blogging?

I started my blog as a history undergrad because I wanted to write more than just coursework. I continued  afterwards (sporadically) through my Masters degree  and never really stopped, though I’ve gone through a few dry spells over the years! I like that I can always come back to it though.

What’s your favourite thing about blogging?

I love researching and sharing things I find interesting. If someone else finds it interesting or useful somehow, even better.

What’s your least favourite thing about blogging?

Comment spam, everyone loves getting comments right? So it’s annoying to find it’s just some spam bot. I moderate to avoid them.

Tell us about your favourite blog post.

That’s hard, a while ago I had fun writing about where mermaids and mermen originated from. I think it just stands out because I really loved mermaids as a child.

Describe your blog in three words.

Interesting old stuff

What do you do when you’re not blogging?

I love family swim time, there’s nothing better than splashing around with my little girl. Also our furbaby is a 3 year old border collie so lots of walkies are a must. I enjoy doing a bit of pyrography, I got into it while doing bits for our wedding. I have a much neglected Etsy store but I mostly do gifts for friends and family now.

If you could only eat one thing for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Porridge oats, it’s the perfect food! Coffee flavoured overnight oats with walnuts are my favourite.

What would be your perfect day?

A lie in, a woodland walk, back massage and swim. Quiet and relaxing.

What’s your top tip for getting traffic to your blog?

Spread it far and wide!; Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, [insert other social media platform of choice!], engage with other bloggers, exchange links with other blogs and sign up for blog directories.

I hope you all enjoyed getting to know Elaine through those questions. Don’t forget to check out Early Modern World. If you want to follow Elaine on social media, you can do so on Twitter.
