A List Of Firsts

Hey guys, welcome back! A few weeks ago, I was asking my mam about the first musical she saw and the first album (or record in those days) that she bought and it got me thinking that we go through a lot of firsts in our lives which gave me the idea for this post which is a list of firsts.

My first time in the Harry Potter studios (I’ve been 3 times in all)

My List of Firsts

So, this whole idea came to me because of a conversation about first musicals and CDs so…

The first stage musical I saw and the first movie musical I saw were both Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat and I’ve seen it countless times since and know every single word. It’s one of my favourites! I last saw it a year ago now while it was touring and I just happened to be going on a day I was really down and upset because of something that had happened the night before and it totally put that out of my mind and I felt incredible after seeing it, it’s just one of the most feel-good shows!

The first CD I bought was S Club Juniors – One Step Closer To Heaven. I bought it from Woolworths if I remember correctly and it came with a little leaflet showing you how to do all the dance moves and my brother ripped it and I was devastated. I ended up taping it back together and I might still have it somewhere 16 years later (looked and I have the CD and the case but not the leaflet). The best thing about this is that Frankie Bridge and Rochelle Humes were in S Club Juniors and then a few years later they were in The Saturdays and I loved The Saturdays!

My first trip to the cinema is something I always remember. I was four years old and my parents took me to see The Tigger Movie and my dad kept falling asleep and he couldn’t miss the film so I kept poking him to get him to watch. He still falls asleep in films now so not much has changed!

A List of Firsts

My first time going up to Birmingham to watch the Strictly tour and the first time I met Craig Revel Horwood (and the last so far)

I got my first ‘real’ boyfriend when I was 16 and we actually thought we would be together forever but I ruined the relationship. We were together on and off for a year. I broke up with him 3 times because I ‘wasn’t happy anymore’ but what I didn’t realise at the time is it was depression. Now that I know this and I have an explanation for my behaviour I often think about sending him a message apologising and explaining myself but I don’t want him to feel like I’m messing him around again so I guess it’s just something I have to live with and I hope that he was able to get closure. You can read more about this experience in my post on My Mental Health Story. (You know who you are so if, by chance you ever read this, I’m sorry).

When I got my first job, I was 16 and the job was working in a playscheme. I really enjoyed that job and it was only during the school holidays which suited me at the time. The worst part of that job was that I was new and a lot of the other play workers already knew each other so I was a little bit on the outside. I went on to do a few more playschemes over the next two years but in the end, I found it boring because there wouldn’t be that many kids going most days.

My Naughty Little Sister by Dorothy Edwards is the first book I remember reading. It had a pink cover and an illustration of a little girl. I thought I still had it but I can’t find it which I’m really sad about!

I asked you guys on Twitter for some suggestions of firsts we go through and one of my lovely friends Kimberly from Mother of Girls suggested some of these next ones so thank you so much for those, Kimberly!

When I was about 6 months old (I’m guessing), I went on my first holiday to Bournemouth. I went with my mam, my dad and my grandparents. I really wish I could remember going because it’s one of the few holidays I went on while my parents were still together and my brother wasn’t born yet😂. My first time going abroad was when I was about 7 and we were going to Majorca. For this holiday, I went with my mam, brother and grandparents. My cousin took me, my mam and brother to the airport and that’s when I got in my first car crash (and last touch wood!). I was sitting in the backseat with my brother and I think a car went into the back of us and I remember hitting my head on the seat in front of me and then hitting it on my seat when the force knocked my head back. The paramedics wanted to take me to the hospital but my mother wouldn’t let them because we had to catch the plane😂. I was okay but my mam had whiplash and spent the holiday in bed.

A List of Firsts

My first time in Madam Tussauds. I was terrified in this picture, it really takes some getting used to! I haven’t been back since but I’m dying to! Side note – Russell Brand is really tall. Another side note – please don’t judge my outfit, I was about 15…

I wasn’t sure about sharing this next one because I don’t really talk about it but I don’t really know why and that’s my first period. I’m not sure how old I was, maybe 12? I remember it was a Sunday and my mam was kind of busy that day. I went to the toilet and saw there was something in my underwear but I didn’t know what so I just changed them and went on with my day. I went to the toilet again later in the day and it had happened again. This must have happened once more then I told my mam what had happened then she explained what was going on. I remember having the talk in school about what happens when girls get older but somehow I just didn’t make the connection, I didn’t have a clue what it was!

This last one is kind of an embarrassing story! It’s about my first driving experience. I don’t drive now but I did start having lessons when I was 17 as most people do. On my first lesson, my instructor took me to an industrial estate not too far from my house and then taught me the basics, as you do on a first lesson. We started driving around the estate and I remember coming out of a junction and the instructor kept saying ‘turn, turn, turn’ then the next thing I know, we’re in a bush. I don’t know how it happened or why I didn’t stop but I had driven into a bush… I was a little bit shaken, as you would be on a first lesson but I kept going and finished the lesson. I went on to have 3 more hours of lessons with that instructor then I decided to stop. I was already super nervous and I’ll never understand why this instructor let me go into a bush because she had pedals and could have stopped it happening.

I hope you enjoyed this list of firsts, it was so fun going back and writing about my first experiences with different things! I’d love to know some of your firsts so drop some in the comments! If you liked this post, please share it using the buttons below!

Thanks for reading, Em xo
