In today’s edition of Blogger Love, I will be featuring Larissa from Life With Larissa. I ask everyone who wants to be featured in Blogger Love to answer a few questions so that we can get to know them and their blog so I’m excited for you all to get to know Larissa a little better!
Tell us a bit about you and your blog.
Hi, my name is Larissa. I was born in Haiti and currently live in the United States. I have a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and minors in Biology and French. I enjoy learning, so I returned to school. I’m currently a full-time student, a part-time traveller, and a part-time swim coach. My blog, Life with Larissa, focuses on my adventures, travel-related topics, and showcasing others who enjoy travelling as well.
Why did you start blogging?
My friend actually recommended that I start vlogging my travels – so I started a YouTube channel to document my adventures. Shortly after, I thought, why don’t I start a blog to accompany my videos? As I’m more of a writer, and a “behind-the-scenes” type of person, I began to focus more and more on my blog. I enjoyed sharing my travels and thoughts with others, and I also enjoyed going back and reading what I wrote months later. It’s funny – shortly after starting my channels, I questioned why I did at all. I realized I didn’t travel as often as I thought I did, but thanks to Life with Larissa, I’ve been engaging in more travel opportunities!
What’s your favourite thing about blogging?
My favourite thing about blogging would have to be all the incredible people you meet along the way. Starting a blog was definitely a learning curve for me, but I had people take time out of their day to explain, suggest, and recommend things to me. I love how supportive and encouraging the blogging community can be, and although there were several times I thought giving up was the best option, I was motivated to keep pushing through!
What’s your least favourite thing about blogging?
My least thing about blogging would have to that it’s super easy to compare yourself to much bigger and “better” blogs. I’ve definitely fallen into the trap of thinking ‘why should continue posting – no one cares what I have to say when they can go check out x blog instead’. Although I’ve pushed past, it’s not difficult for those thoughts to creep back up.
Tell us about your favourite blog post.
In light of the recent news and the statements made by Trump, I’ll have to say my favourite post is 10 Things You Didn’t Know about Haitian Culture. I love this post because not many people know a lot about Haitian culture. They think about Haiti as the poorest country in the world, and how natural disasters tend to circulate the island. People tend to forget that people live on this island – people with families and friends, people with hopes and dreams, and people who love sharing their culture with others.
Describe your blog in three words.
Travelling + Life + Fun
What do you do when you’re not blogging?
I am currently a graduate student pursuing my Masters of Public Health. So twice a week, I am attending classes for the whole day. On the other days of the week, I am an assistant swim coach. I work with the younger kids in helping them learn how to swim correctly, and how to improve their speed. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with family and friends, reading, travelling, eating, and I’m currently working on adding exercise/going to the gym to the list.
If you could only eat one thing for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Man, this question always gets me. I love so many different types of food, I honestly don’t even know if I have a favourite food. Am I allowed to pick Haitian food? It’s truly delicious and I’m parent’s cooking is second to none. Their chicken, salmon, rice, and fried plantains are oh so good. My best friend even had dreams about my mom’s rice! Hahaha…now I’m hungry!
What would be your perfect day?
Again, another hard question. My perfect day would consist of one that I get to learn something new – preferably while travelling. I love learning and I don’t think that process is ever finished. There is so much in this world that we can learn from. Oh, and good food has to be involved as well. It’s not a perfect day without perfect meals!
What’s your top tip for getting traffic to your blog?
My top tip would be to always try and be authentic and honest in your posts. It’s easy to get distracted by all the other things that come along with blogging [especially monetization], but it’s important to write your posts in a way that your readers can relate!
