Review: The Greatest Showman

Okay, okay. I know I said in my last Blogmas post that I was going to take a break from blogging over Christmas but last night I saw The Greatest Showman and I just HAD to tell you guys about it! It was incredible and such a rollercoaster of emotions.

Inspired by the imagination of P.T. Barnum, The Greatest Showman is an original musical that celebrates the birth of show business and tells of a visionary who rose from nothing to create a spectacle that became a worldwide sensation. – IMDB

The only word I can use to describe the film is spectacular. The costumes, the choreography, the songs, the acting it was just INCREDIBLE! From start to finish I was engrossed in the story and I didn’t even want to blink because I didn’t want to miss anything. My expectations were incredibly high. I adore musicals and I always love it when a new one comes out and I was beyond excited! I had been listening to the soundtrack for a week before seeing the film and I absolutely adored it. Every song is incredible! They were written by the same people who wrote the music for La La Land which I love but The Greatest Showman topped that for me.

The film was cast perfectly, everyone was just wonderful! Hugh Jackman was a brilliant choice because not only is he a great actor and very famous, he’s got the experience of being in a musical from Broadway and Les Miserables. I was so happy to see Zac Efron back in a musical. He’s one of my favourite actors and I’ve grown up watching him from the age of 10 in High School Musical. I love his comedy films and he’s proven that he can do that now but he’s such an incredible singer! Zendaya was the most impressive person in the cast for me because I read that she trained and did her own stunts and she does some incredible films in this film! Her duet with Zac (Rewrite the Stars) was absolutely incredible and one of my favourite performances!

As I mentioned, I had been listening to the soundtrack before I saw the film (you can hear it all here and I love every single song but my favourite is This Is Me which is the anthem of the film. The song is so powerful and I just love the lyrics and the message. It’s sung my Keala Settle who I had never heard of until I saw a video of her performing the song. It’s one of the most incredible videos (see it below) to watch and if she doesn’t become a huge star after this I will be shocked!

Another of my favourites on the soundtrack is From Now On which didn’t really stick out on the soundtrack for me until I saw a video (see it below) from the same day as the above video. The atmosphere in that room looks just electric!

I would 100% recommend going to see this film. It was the best film I’ve seen in such a long time! From the opening number (which is incredible) to the closing number (which is phenomenal), you will just be captivated in the magic of The Greatest Showman!

Let me know in the comments if you’ve seen the film! I’d love to know your thoughts.

Thanks for reading, Em xo
