Strictly 2017: Week 10

I can’t believe it’s week 10 now, the competition is getting so close! I feel like almost everyone improved from last week which I love seeing so let’s get to discussing the couples!

Joe and Katya – 9

I loved this dance, the choreography was so clever, especially the bit where they kept body contact but released from hold, it’s so different! His topline bearly moved and they were stuck together like glue, brilliant! I did think it was a bit slow in the beginning but it was excellent, he’s improving every week and is doing incredibly well for a non-dancer.

Alexandra and Gorka – 7

On paper, this should have been incredible, she had a good leg action in the cha-cha which means she should have had it in the Rumba too. Considering she’s a performer, I’m surprised that this didn’t have emotion or a connection between the two of them. I wasn’t a fan of this dance.

Gemma and Aljaz – 8

I thought the concept of this dance was so clever and I loved how they weaved it into the dance. You could see she really tried so hard to get the technique of the bounce etc but they knew this wasn’t going to be her best dance so they just enjoyed it which was great!

Mollie and AJ – 9

At the beginning, I wasn’t a fan of the song but when it got going, I loved it. Mollie did a great job with this dance, she kept her frame for most of it and they had almost no gapping. She did mess up at the end but she’s really come a long way and she’s improving every week.

Davood and Nadiya – 9

Firstly, Nadiya had the look of the night, her dress was gorgeous and I loved her hair! I also loved that Davood was in a proper ballroom tails suit, we don’t see that enough on Strictly anymore. I thought the dance was beautiful, it was simple and I will take simple and danced well over complicated and not danced well any day!

Debbie and Giovanni – 9

I was mesmerised by this, I just couldn’t take my eyes off them. She has gorgeous legs and they are perfect for this dance because they are always so precise. I am sick of seeing the splits in every dance, I get it, she’s flexible but do they need to show it every week? I do think that the end was a little off, I feel like they should have landed, the music stopped and the fireworks all go off the exact same second but it didn’t, might just be me thinking that though.

Susan and Kevin – 7

I adored this dance, it was so sweet! I just love watching her because she brings so much joy when she dances and I have the biggest smile when I watch them!

The Paso Doble-thon

I never really like these ‘thons’ that they do every year, last year wasn’t so bad because they each had their own square but for this one, there was just too much going on and I never know where to look. I probably would have Joe first over Alexandra because I thought she was a bit pigeon-toed but as much as I love them, I agree with Susan and Kevin being at the bottom BUT I did LOVE how they ended with Kevin being ‘dead’ at the end! He switched it up like in their Samba which I love!

The Result

Honestly, I’ve been dreading this couple being eliminated. Susan and Kevin have been my favourites from the beginning, as soon as she cried about getting Kevin on the launch show, she was relatable to me because I would have had the same reaction! I have been mentally preparing myself all week because as much as I agree with them being the right couple to go, I’m still very sad about it. You could see every week that Susan was loving the experience and that was a joy to see and every week I watched them with the biggest smile on my face and I’m going to miss them very much, it won’t be the same without them. I’m also not looking forward to a Kevin-free final! I’m so excited that Susan will be on the tour, I really hope Kevin will be joining her, their friendship is so special and they were the perfect pairing! As for Alexandra being in the bottom two… every cloud has a silver lining. I’m not a fan of Alexandra and I think she’s constantly over-marked so I was interested to see how she would do with not being at the top of the leaderboard because I know a lot of people feel the same way about her as I do.

What did you think of this week’s performances? Did the right couple go home? I’d love to know what you think in the comments! If you missed my post on the Blackpool Special, you can read that here.
