How I Took Over Someone Else’s Facebook Group

How I Took Over Someone Else's Facebook Group

Today, I’m going to tell you The Story Of How I Took Over Someone Else’s Facebook Group and the fears and challenges I have faced in the first few days of doing so.

The Story Of How I Took Over Someone Else’s Facebook Group

I am part of a few blogging groups on Facebook I had been thinking about starting a group for a while now. One of the admins of one of the groups I was part of announced that she needed to stop and was planning on deleting the group. The group started back in September 2017 and I had been a member since the very beginning and I watched it grow to almost 500 members. I had also seen the engagement drop very low but it was my favourite group to be a part of and I felt sad that it would be disappearing.

As soon as I saw the announcement, I reached out and said:

I just saw your post in the group and although I do respect your decision, I’m sad because it’s my favourite group. I’ve been thinking about starting a group for a while now to do threads and have a place bloggers can go for help so if you’re interested, I would love to take over the group for you if it’s something you would be happy with.

I was told that I could have the group but there were a few conditions like changing the name, rules, cover picture etc which I was happy with because I wanted to do that anyway. I was excited about it but extremely nervous. No, terrified! I would be taking over something that somebody else had worked so hard to grow and make their own.

Would the members be happy the group was staying? Would they participate in the new threads I was planning on introducing? Would they accept me as the new person in charge of the group?

I tried to put this out of my mind and went ahead with the preparations to take over. As I mentioned, I took over on the Friday but I knew I would be taking over on the Monday and in those five days I drafted what I would say to the group after the other person announced I would be taking over, I created a new cover photo and images to post every day for the threads, I made a schedule of the new threads I wanted to bring into the group. I wanted everything to be perfect.

When it was announced that I would take over, I posted what I had written in the group and went ahead and made the changes. I changed the header, the name, the rules and the pinned post. I decided to change the name of the group to Blogger Love because of my blogger showcase and my mission of spreading love in the blogging community.

I have a vision for what I want this group to be. I want everybody in the group to be happy and get involved with the threads and help people out if they post a question to the group and share blogging stories but currently, that doesn’t happen. I would also love a sense of community in the group and for people to be able to make friends. It’s going to take a lot of work on my part and honestly, I don’t have a clue what I’m doing or how I’m going to make my vision for the group come true!

I feel extremely lucky to have been given this group and I appreciate all the hard work that went into getting its 500 members. However, it’s more daunting in a way because I have to try and get most of this group engaging again and continue to grow it. I also feel I have to live up to the previous person who ran the group and continue her hard work. It will be a challenge but I’m looking forward to the challenge.

If you want to join the group, I would absolutely love to have you on board this new journey! You can find a link to the group over in the sidebar on the right. If you enjoyed the story of how I took over someone else’s Facebook group, please share the post using the buttons below!
