Blogmas Day 20: Christmas Nails

Christmas Nails

It’s day 20 which means we’re almost at the end of Blogmas and there are only 5 more days until Christmas! Friday is my last day at work for 2017 and I’m super excited because also on Friday is my first ever office Christmas party! I’ll be telling you all about it in the penultimate post on Saturday. In preparation for the party, I’ve done some Christmassy candy cane inspired nails so today I’m going to be telling you how I did them. They’re super simple and easy to do and were inspired by Simply Nailogical (you can watch her video here, it’s way more extreme than the nails I’ve done)!

What You’ll Need:

Red nail varnish
Glitter nail varnish (preferably holo, obviously!)
A basecoat
A Topcoat
Lined nail vinyls/striping tape
Makeup sponge (optional)

Candy Cane Christmas Nails:

Step 1

Paint your nails with a base coat, you can use any type of base coat you have on hand.

Step 2

For this step, you can either paint your nails regularly with the glitter nail varnish or use the sponge. For the sponge method, you get more glitter because the sponge absorbs any excess jelly/polish. Paint the glitter polish on to the sponge and just dab it on your nails.

Step 3

Now, this step is optional – you need your coat of glitter polish to be completely dry so that the vinyls don’t ruin it so I applied a layer of gel top coat and cured it so that the glitter was completely protected.

Step 4

When the glitter is completely dry, take your striping tape or vinyl and place them diagonally down your choice of nails. You can do them all or just a selection. I left my ring finger and thumb out and just did the other three fingers.

Step 5

Make sure the lines are completely stuck down and paint over them with the red polish. It’s best to take each piece of tape off straight after you paint it because it gets more difficult the dryer your nails get.

Step 6

If your red polish leaks through the tape a little, that’s fine. Just take a thin brush and fill in any mistakes with the glitter polish.

Step 7

Finally, add your top coat. I used a gel top coat because I want to try and make my nails last until Christmas (which was a week away at the time I painted my nails so I may need to do some touch-ups).

I hope you enjoyed that little tutorial! As you can see, these are super easy so you will be able to give them a go, whatever your ability. If you missed yesterday’s post, you can read that here.
