I can’t believe this is my 22nd Blogmas post, I’m so proud that I’ve made it this far because it hasn’t been easy! After today there are only two more posts but they’re not important right now. Today, I’m going to be telling you what Christmas day is like in my house. I’ll be sharing with you what my family does on Christmas day and why this year will be different.
For as long as I can remember, Christmas day has been the same (except for the one year I spent Christmas day with my dad).
Every Christmas morning, we wake up early and we don’t start opening presents until everyone is up. That used to be okay until my grandparents started staying down and my grandpa would take FOREVER to come downstairs which drives everyone mad! After we open our presents, we have breakfast. Usually something a bit different because it’s Christmas! We then get dressed and prepare to visit my Auntie and Uncle and give their presents and get ours. This year, they are going away for Christmas because my auntie hasn’t been well lately and it’s just too much for her. This year is going to be strange because we obviously won’t be going up on Christmas day but we always go up for food on boxing night with my grandparents but we won’t be able to do that either this year.
After we visit my Auntie and Uncle, we either head to my grandparents’ house or back to my house, depending on where we’re having Christmas dinner that year. We alternate every year and this year we’re having it in my house so we literally won’t be going anywhere on Christmas day. After dinner, it’s usually quite boring, when I was younger, I would play with my new toys but I don’t really get toys anymore. Some years, I have a sequin art so I do that but this year, I’m having a Harry Potter puzzle (the 2nd part of the picture below) so I can pretty much guarantee I’ll be doing that!
Around 5-6ish, we all gather and watch the Strictly Come Dancing Christmas Special and have a buffet that nobody really wants because they’re still full from dinner! After Strictly, we usually play games. I’ve got lots of new ones to play this year including The Chase and Million Pound Drop. I wrote a post for Christmas Day game ideas that you can read here if you missed it.
That’s pretty much it for what happens in my house on Christmas Day. It’s all pretty normal. But, back to the year I was with my dad… Usually, we have Christmas day with my mam and her side of the family, then on Boxing day, we have a 2nd Christmas with my dad and his side of the family. Usually just my dad, step-mother and my 2 sisters, in the past, we’ve visited her family or her mother has come to my dad’s house or whatever but it’s usually just the 6 of us (my brother is there too). This year, he’s working on Boxing Day so we’re going down the evening after so we have big plans for Boxing Day! These plans may change but currently, we’re going down to the Winter Wonderland in the Celtic Manor and to see The Greatest Showman which I absolutely can’t WAIT to see! I’m actually listening to the soundtrack as I’m writing this and it’s incredible so I’ll definitely tell you guys about what I get up to next week or in the new year.
If you missed yesterday’s post, you can read that here. Let me know in the comments what you get up to on Christmas Day – I’d love to hear your traditions!
Thanks for reading, Em xo
