In today’s edition of Blogger Love, I will be featuring Holly from Life of a Blind Girl. I ask everyone who wants to be featured in Blogger Love to answer a few questions so that we can get to know them and their blog so I’m excited for you all to get to know Holly a little better!
Tell us a bit about you and your blog.
My name is Holly, I’m a disability and lifestyle blogger. I am blind and was born at 24 weeks, so I developed a condition called Retinopathy of Prematurity (ROP). I only have light perception, meaning that I can only see light and dark, I have no useful vision. Nevertheless, my visual impairment doesn’t stop me in life, I’ve graduated from university and got a job that I absolutely love. I am a girly girl so I love shopping, beauty, fashion, seeing my friends and family and love love love going to concerts to see my favourite bands and artists. I share my experiences of living with a visual impairment on my blog, tackle the common misconceptions surrounding disability/visual impairment and try to help others as much as I can.
Why did you start blogging?
I started blogging because I wanted to help other people living with a disability or visual impairment and tackle the common misconceptions and stigmas surrounding these. I love helping people so this is one of the reasons why I started blogging as well.
What’s your favourite thing about blogging?
My favourite thing about blogging has to be the blogging community, I’ve met some of my closest friends through the blogging community. Don’t get me wrong, it has it’s challenges but overall, it’s such a lovely community. I love supporting other bloggers and it means the world when other bloggers support my work as well.
What’s your least favourite thing about blogging?
My least favourite thing about blogging is the fact that I think disability bloggers are overlooked. We may not be your average beauty or lifestyle blogger, but we are out here trying to make a difference. We are rarely involved in any huge blogging events or award ceremony’s and this frustrates me. I wish that we were more equal to everyone else.
Tell us about your favourite blog post.
My favourite blog post is my post on the common misconceptions on blindness. It’s the post that has had the most views but blogging isn’t about numbers, I’m extremely proud of this post because I genuinely felt like I have tried to make a difference to people’s wrongly perceived ideas surrounding sight loss, even if it’s a small change. The messages that I have received about this post have been amazing and I am extremely grateful.
Describe your blog in three words.
What do you do when you’re not blogging?
I work 4 days a week so this takes a lot of my time up. Other than that I go out with my family, see my friends, listen to music, watch tv, read, just general things like that.
If you could only eat one thing for the rest of your life, what would it be?
What would be your perfect day?
What’s your top tip for getting traffic to your blog?
I’d definitely recommend sharing your blog posts on social media. This can be by using hashtags on Twitter, sharing a post on Instagram or on your Facebook page, or joining blogger groups on Facebook and sharing your posts in those.
I hope you all enjoyed getting to know Holly through those questions and don’t forget to check out Life of a Blind Girl. If you want to follow Holly on social media, you can do so through on Facebook, Instagram, YouTube and Twitter.
